The WORLD PREMIÈRE of four Dances and Minuets transcribed from sketches in Beethoven’s notebooks have been included in the first of these recitals. Fresh and innovative, they demonstrate the unflagging experimentation and dedication that characterised Beethoven’s creative spirit. Daniel Levy plays Beethoven: Bagatelles & Adagios
The second recital begins with a selection of beautiful but little-performed Bagatelles, some without opus numbers and some of opus 119 and opus 126. These appear as flashes of light and poetry with moments imbued with energetic and graceful rhythms. Also included are some Adagios from the Piano Sonatas, making the whole a rich fresco of Beethoven’s inventiveness.
